It is with much excitement that I have arranged for ECE's 2nd grade class to attend a cross curricular symphony performance on Thursday, February 20th at 9:50am at SWHS!
The San Antonio Symphony League and Agarita, a local chamber music ensemble, is a new collaboration to bring live classical music concerts to our students. These concerts are part of the Agarita Inspires! series and will support the League’s 51st Paint to Music contest.

The concert theme is American Roots: Tracing the American Experience Through Music. Agarita will be augmented with musicians from the New World Symphony so the ensemble will include 10 musicians. They will present these pieces:

·        Samuel Coleridge-Taylor | Nonet in F minor, movement 1

·        Florence Price | Adoration

·        Steve Reich | Clapping music

·        Camile Saint Saens | Dance Macabre

·        Arturo Marquez | Danza de Mediodía, Marquez

·        Jessica Meyer | Getting Home

·        Miguel del Aguila | “obsessed milonga” from Salon Buenos Aires

·        John Williams | Air and Simple Gifts

This concert will support the San Antonio Symphony League’s annual Paint to Music contest, which encourages students to explore the language of classical music and the role that it can play in enhancing creative expression through art. Students in grades K-12 will listen to select pieces of the music that will be played at the concert and create artwork inspired by the music. Winning artwork will then be projected at the concerts. Student winners will also be honored and their artwork will be displayed during Agarita’s concert at the Tobin Center on March 9, 2025. Winners will also receive prizes of art supplies and certificates.

Music and the art contest will be presented and taught during Fine Arts specials in January.
